This artist’s quote is from Renaissance man, painter, and sculptor Leonardo da Vinci. Here, Leonardo da Vinci says, “Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen.” This quote is seems so true to me. While there are many different forms of art, from writing, to movies, to painting, they are all a source of self-expression and are created to help the artist express whatever it is they are feeling. No matter how you create your art, it all does the same thing; it helps you get across to your audience what you feel inside. The painter uses brush strokes and paint to say what they need to, and the poet uses words, but it is all evoking a feeling. A good poem can make you feel as though you are in the moment that is being described. It can help you through a tough time, and make you feel understood. A painting can help you feel these same feelings, but without the need for words. Instead, the artist communicates through the sense of sight, but it can transform the viewer and put across a message and an understanding as well.
Have you ever been touched by a poem or a painting? Do you think poetry, painting, and other art forms are similar in how they affect people?
